Effective immediately for the start of the 2025-2026 school year, Modesto Virtual Academy will no longer offer enrollment for elementary grade levels TK through 6.

This decision has been made due to ongoing and projected low enrollment in these grade levels.

As a result, all Modesto City Schools students currently enrolled in grades TK-6 will be required to attend in-person instruction at their designated home school beginning the first day of school (August 12, 2025). We understand that this change may be an adjustment for some families, and we are committed to supporting a smooth transition.

If your child is currently enrolled in MVA and will be in grades TK through 6th grade for the upcoming 2025-26 year, please prepare to attend in-person at their current home school site on the first day of school (August 12, 2025). No additional registration is required. Your child’s home school will reach out with information regarding upcoming events, class placement, and other essential details. Note, students must also adhere to immunization requirements in order to attend in-person.

At this time, Modesto Virtual Academy is accepting requests to enroll grades 7-12 for the 2025-2026 school year. Students who start their contracts now must first attend at their school site for the beginning of the year. Please contact Modesto Virtual Academy at (209) 574-8192 to begin the process to enroll and to schedule a mandatory, in-person orientation.

Modesto Virtual Academy (MVA) is an independent study program for 7-12 facilitated by credentialed teachers through online courses.

Students follow the independent study structure of initial orientation and completion of an MVA independent study contract. Weekly assignments must be completed and students must attend scheduled meetings to remain in the program.

MVA Students remain enrolled at school of resident and are eligible for activities at the school including sports. Course content is accessed through online curriculum. Students may need to attend in-person for testing or other activities throughout the year.

Students who have an interest in attending MVA who are currently eligible for Special Education and Related Services through an IEP, must have an IEP meeting to discuss a possible programmatic change PRIOR to enrollment in MVA. For additional information regarding this process, please contact your case-manager.

Similarly, students on a 504 plan who have an interest in attending MVA, must have a 504 meeting to discuss a possible programmatic change PRIOR to enrollment in the MVA. For additional information regarding this process, please contact your school’s 504 Coordinator.

Modesto Virtual Academy is a program for students of Modesto City Schools. We welcome all students to our program.
